SPECIAL NEEDS MINISTRY AIDE

Serves: Special Needs Ministries team members and volunteers

Works: Part time, approximately 4-6 hours per week (depending on the season), hourly, non-exempt

Qualifications: Experience working with various behavioral challenges (ADD, ADHD, ASD, etc.), able to help de-escalate challenging behaviors, ability to take initiative in high emotional situations between volunteer(s) and student(s)

Pay Range: $20 – $22 per hour based on experience and years worked

Scope:

The Special Needs Ministry Aide offers behavioral support to special needs students ranging in ages from elementary through high school during Sunday morning classes. Must be able to lift 30 lbs. Training or experience in any of the following is highly recommended: classroom experience as a paraprofessional with Special Education students, SDC experience, de-escalation training, ABA training, any Special Education schooling.

Sunday Morning Ministry Support – 60%

  • Meet as needed with the Shepherd of Special Needs, Special Needs Ministry Assistant and Special Needs Lead Teacher(s).
  • Work in Circle of Friends class with behaviorally challenged students.
  • As needed, work in Youth Ministries with behaviorally challenged students.

Shepherd Students and maintain safe class environment – 25%

  • As needed, teach and lead class times.
  • Help maintain safety with behaviorally challenged students.
  • Provide extra leadership and structure for classrooms.
  • Mentor and encourage special needs students.

Other Ministry – 15%

  • Cultivate intimacy with God and growth in Christ-like character through personal and corporate spiritual disciplines.
  • Participate in training and conferences as directed.
  • Meet as needed with Shepherd of Special Needs for mentoring.
  • Attend and help with social events such as Friday Night Live.
  • Attend and help with performing arts groups seasonally (Christmas Program, Spring Program, etc.).
