Discovery Labs Overview
This year the kids will be raising money to help Integrity Church in Kenya to put on a VBS for the local kids in their area. Our goal is to raise $1500.
Can my child bring a friend?
Yes! Children may invite a friend, just make sure that each child attending fills out a registration form. On the form there is a section where you can write the name of one friend to make sure they are placed in the same group. Due to limited small group sizes, if your child would like to be with more than one friend we cannot guarantee they will all be placed in the same small group, but we will do our best to get them in the same color group so that they will still be together throughout the day. Note: children are grouped according to grade level.
What if my child has a food allergy?
If your child has a food allergy, please make sure you indicate the type of allergy on the registration form and we will make sure to notify their counselor.
What if I need to pick up my child early?
If you need to check your child out early, please check in with one of our help desk lab assistants and they will assist you.
Is there any cost to VBS?
No. VBS is provided by our church and is free for all children.
What are the ages of children that can attend VBS?
VBS is for children going into the 1st through 4th grades in the Fall. VBS will be held on Main Campus (southwest corner of Rolling Hills and Brea Blvd.).
Is there a screening process for counselors?
Yes. All of our counselors are pre-screened and all counselors over the age of 18 must be fingerprinted.
Fullerton Free believes that all people have a right to a safe and healthy church experience. We will not tolerate any behavior that infringes on the safety or well being of others. One person or group of people shall not intimidate, harass, or bully another person or group with harmful intention whether in word or in action. This includes behavior such as hitting or shoving, verbal assaults, teasing or name-calling, social isolation, retaliation or manipulation. We prohibit harassment especially in regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation or disability. Staff who witness such acts should take immediate action to intervene in a non-physical capacity.
STEP 1: Verbal Warning - Appropriate staff will first intervene to stop bullying in progress. They will then talk to the child or children doing the bullying. This is not simply telling them what NOT to do and why. It is also intended to take the time to ask questions and understand what is motivating their behavior. They WILL be told that their behavior can be taken as bullying and that bullying will not be allowed to happen at VBS..
STEP 2: Report to Lead Counselor - If the bullying is more serious in nature, or it continues after the initial incident and verbal warning, the staff person involved will report the incident to a lead counselor. The lead counselor will then talk to the child or children doing the bullying, as well as to the victim of the bullying. The lead counselor will assess the situation and attempt to reconcile the situation between the children involved. They will decide if one or more of the children would benefit from switching to a different group. If the incident is more serious in nature or has continued to happen after the initial verbal warning, the lead counselor will report the incident to the parents of the child who is doing the bullying.
STEP 3: Exclusion from VBS - As a last resort, and only if the bullying continues to happen after the above mentioned steps have been taken, the child or children doing the bullying would be asked not to return for the remainder of the week. This step would be taken in order to protect the child or children who are being bullied.
