A Letter From Darin McWatters

December 3, 2020

Good evening Fullerton Free,

I know it’s been a while since you’ve received a “Shepherd’s Letter” as, in this season, we’ve been leaning more heavily on video messages rather than the written word. But this week, with massive preparations underway for our Drive Thru Christmas, other Christmas events and Christmas services I thought I’d give the video department a break and write you an old-fashioned letter instead. 🙂

Since it’s almost the end of the year, can I take a second and recommend a couple things that I’ve loved in 2020? Obviously, you don’t have to pay any attention but here are few things I’ve been blessed by and maybe they’ll be a blessing to you as well!

Book: Gentle and Lowly, by Dane C. Ortlund

Album: Maverick City Vol. 3, by Maverick City Music

Lunch: Holdaak Chicken at 1201 S. Euclid St. Fullerton CA, 92832

Newsletter: Moore to the Point, by Russell Moore

Show: Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix

Social Media Platform: None! I have officially abandoned them all this year and my life is better for it.

Video Game: Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch

Candy: Good and Plenty (If you haven’t tried this recently, give it another shot. It’s great and your kids won’t steal it)

Church Service: 5:30pm outdoor service on the Parking Garage Roof

Drink: Pumpkin Spice Cold Foam Cold Brew at Starbucks

Hobby: Traditional Rug Hooking (I learned how to “hook” this year from Gene Shepherd’s website.

Ok, I think that’s enough! I know it’s slightly conceited to assume that any of you would be interested in any of the things that I’ve enjoyed this year. But I submit the list, not only because I care about you all, but also because it serves as a small illustration of the way God provides blessing and joy even in the midst of difficult years like the one we’ve had.

How about this . . . Why don’t you take a few minutes and write out a few of the things that have blessed you this year? It doesn’t have to be super spiritual – it could just be a comfortable pair of shoes, or a podcast or a cheesy joke. Jot a few of those things down and send them to me so I can try them out! Or if you can’t think of anything, why not try one of my recommendations and then let me know what you think by emailing me at I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

As always, you all are in my prayers, and I’m so thankful for the work that God is doing among us! Keep your eyes on Jesus and your heart set on serving others.
